growing vases by nendo

 growing vases by nendo

During this year’s Salone, an exhibition of three designs by three designers including Mathieu Lehanneur and nendo under the art direction of designer Fabio Novembre showcased the artistry of venerable Czech Bohemian glass maker Lasvit’s glassblowers.

We were assigned the abstract theme ‘cocoon’, and asked to create work that would directly convey the quixotic appeal of glass as something that is impractical and incomplete, but provides a breath of fresh air, opening up new possibilities. We decided to take the brief in a playful direction, and to suggest both breathing and the incomplete by displaying the metal pipes used by glassblowers, still attached to the glass objects that they were used to make.

By turning the pipes into flowers and branches and the glass into a vase, we literally turned convention on its head, making flowers blooming in vases into vases blooming from flowers to represent the flower bulbs that draw nutrients from plants through photosynthesis and store new life.

gorgeous glass works... would make an amazing chandelieresque deco at home.

Photography the SLOW Way

It’s easier than ever to produce professional looking photographs. Some mobile phones can produce stunning results but ask any professional photographer and they’d say people are diving into the prosumer market without understanding key fundamentals like framing and composition. The SLOW concept turns your mobile phone into a camera that gives you control over three built-in lenses; fixed, macro and fisheye. Frame your composition and push the shutter.

This is how it works:
* To operate, slide the front face open and insert your mobile phone.
* Turn the lens to select which lens effect you want.
* The Slow Photography camera has three lenses; fixed focal length, macro and fisheye. Carefully compose your shot by looking through the viewfinder and push the shutter release to capture your shot.

please step forward mr. santiago alviera!!
who is this mastermind behind a rogue installation label along harbourfront centre's south vitrines?
this mysterious label appeared one day. no detailed information about the person who took his/her time to create this label that is very similar to ones we make and neatly posted next to the fire extinguisher case.
i must say, it is brilliant.
sadly the wall is getting repainted so the label had to come off, but i am hoping it will mysteriously appear again once we're done with our new installation.

spring is here

spring has finally arrived in toronto.
it's great to feel some sun on my face, as milly enjoys the warm weather too.
we strolled around roncesvalles to see little vintage shops, bakeries, and lots lots lots of dogs.

and picked up this artisan freeze-dried dog food for milly.
it becomes porridge like when the water's added..
she's a picky eater, hopefully she likes it.
